25 Detained for Collecting Yarsagumba Without Permission in Mugu

Mugu. Police have taken 25 people into custody for going to collect Yarsagumba without permission. A girl child and 25 others who had gone to collect Yarsagumba in various meadows of Mugu have been taken into custody, informed Deputy Superintendent of Police of District Police Office Mugu, Rabiraj Thapaliya.

"We have taken into custody individuals who entered the meadow forest area without permission; they have been brought to the District Police Office," he said.

Mugum Karmarong Rural Municipality has not published any notice regarding Yarsagumba collection. As the Yarsagumba collection season approaches, security has been increased in the Yarsagumba meadows of Mugu.

Valuable, multi-purpose herb Yarsagumba, found in more than two dozen forests and meadows of Mugu, attracts collectors and buyers from Humla, Jumla, Bajura, Dailekh, Kalikot, Achham, and across the country, as well as from India.

Yarsagumba is the main source of economic income for the people of the remote areas. Here, people manage their entire year's family expenses through the sale of Yarsagumba.
