Nepal Police Intensify Anti-Drug Operations, Arrest 22

Kathmandu. Nepal Police has intensified action against the smuggling and trade of illegal drugs across the country. On Friday and Saturday alone, police arrested 22 people with illegal drugs from seven different districts of the country.

They were taken under control with brown sugar, hashish, and controlled medical drugs from various checkpoints and market areas of Jhapa, Kailali, Udayapur, Bardiya, Kanchanpur, Dhanusha, and Sindhuli, according to the police. Police have arrested nine people from Jhapa alone, which is considered the main transit point for the drug trade. Hariprasad Dhakal, 38, was arrested from Budhabare market in Buddhashanti Rural Municipality-3 of Jhapa with 2 grams 720 milligrams of brown sugar. Similarly, Sagar Darji, 24, from Morang, was arrested from Kailashghat in Arjunadhara Municipality-5 with 2 grams of brown sugar, and four people including Sagar Rasaili, 28, were taken under control from Birtamod Municipality-4 with 150 milligrams of brown sugar. Rohit Bhandari, 27, and another 18-year-old minor from Sarlahi were arrested with brown heroin from the old Mechi bridge and Gairigaun in Mechinagar Municipality-6.

Similarly, the police have also increased strict surveillance on the borders of Sudurpaschim. In Tikapur Municipality-9 of Kailali, Laxman Shahi, 20, and Prakash Rimal, 26, from Lamkichuha, who were coming to Nepal from India, were arrested with 1 gram 690 milligrams of brown heroin. In Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City-1 of Kailali, five people including Ramsworup Rana, 30, were arrested with 3 grams 600 milligrams of hashish. In Bardiya, Sunil Tharu, 32, and in Kanchanpur, Janak Ram Rana, 19, were also taken under control by the police with brown heroin.

During police checking, one person was also arrested from Sindhuli with a large quantity of illegal drugs. Karan Chaudhary, 34, from Morang, was caught with 33 grams 410 milligrams of brown heroin during a check on a Hiace vehicle going from Jhapa to Kathmandu in Bhiman of Kamala Mai Municipality-9.

In Udayapur, Ashish Surkheti, 21, and Sandesh Raut, 25, were arrested with controlled drugs such as Diazepam, Phenergan, and Buprenorphine from Triyuga Municipality-6. In Dhanusha Dham Municipality-9 of Dhanusha, Rohit Kumar Mandal, 20, and Mukesh Sah, 22, were taken under control by the police with 100 tablets of Nitrazepam.

All these accused arrested from various places across the country have been booked under the Narcotic Drugs (Control) Act and the concerned police offices have started further investigation.
