Tensions flare as locals resist demolition of squatter settlement in Manohara

Kathmandu. Locals in Manohara, Bhaktapur, have pelted stones at a bulldozer that arrived to clear a squatter settlement.

According to the municipal police, a tense situation arose on Saturday evening after residents threw stones at the bulldozer. A municipal police officer on the field stated, 'There was some tension today, but we will operate the bulldozer starting tomorrow morning. We only intended to begin today; the actual work will be done tomorrow.'

Meanwhile, Onlinekhabar journalist Kamal Prasai was attacked while reporting at the squatter settlement in Manohara. He was assaulted by locals at approximately 7:00 PM. He sustained minor injuries.

Previously, the government had peacefully cleared squatter settlements in two other locations in Kathmandu.
