UN Secretary-General Welcomes US Extension of Ceasefire with Iran

Kathmandu. United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has welcomed the United States' announcement to extend the ceasefire with Iran.

Secretary-General Guterres' spokesperson, Stephane Dujarric, stated that the extension of the ceasefire creates a significant space for building diplomatic trust between Iran and the United States.

He encouraged the involved parties to extend the ceasefire, refrain from actions that could undermine it, and engage in constructive dialogue to reach a sustainable and permanent solution.

Dujarric confirmed the Secretary-General's full support for Pakistan's efforts to facilitate the talks, expressing hope that this initiative will contribute to creating conditions for a permanent resolution to the conflict.

The UN's welcome comes amidst Pakistani-led efforts for a second round of talks between the US and Iran aimed at ending the conflict and finding a permanent solution.

US President Donald Trump stated on Tuesday that he would extend the ceasefire with Iran until Iran presents a proposal to permanently end the conflict.
