Man arrested for character assassination of woman on social media

Kathmandu. Police have arrested Mahesh Giri, a resident of Bhaktapur, on charges of being involved in the character assassination of a woman. Cyber Bureau spokesperson (SP) Dilip Kumar Giri told Ratopati that Giri was arrested from Gaushala, Kathmandu, on Tuesday.

Police officials state that he assassinated the character of a victimized woman through social media (Facebook). Rape survivor Shobha Pathak has confirmed that the police arrested Mahesh Giri for the offense of character assassination against her. 

She wrote on social media, 'Mahesh Giri, who was going around assassinating my character by posting my photos and issuing threats, has been arrested by the police.' She stated that she will also file complaints against other individuals who are harassing her. SP Dilip Giri stated that the arrested accused will be investigated for electronic crime offenses after obtaining a remand on Wednesday. He said, 'We will obtain the remand today and proceed with the investigation.'
