Flood Risk in 14 Districts Due to Heavy Rainfall

Kathmandu. The Flood Forecasting Division under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has stated that there is a moderate risk of flash floods in small rivers flowing through 14 districts of the country today. According to the flood forecast bulletin issued by the division this morning, there is a possibility of a significant increase in the flow of small rivers flowing through Rukum West, Salyan, Jajarkot, Dailekh, Surkhet, Banke, Bardiya, Achham, Doti, Baitadi, Dadeldhura, Kailali, Kanchanpur and surrounding districts. The division has mentioned that the condition of the main rivers is currently normal. According to the measurement this morning, the water flow in Koshi, Narayani, Bagmati, Karnali, Mahakali and their tributaries is below the alert level. Similarly, the bulletin states that the flow of Kankai, Kamala, Eastern Rapti and Western Rapti rivers is also currently in a safe condition. Looking at the weather forecast for tomorrow and the day after, the flood risk is seen to be shifting towards the eastern and central parts of the country. According to the division, there is a forecast of a sudden increase in water flow in some small rivers flowing through Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Madhesh provinces tomorrow, Ashad 23, and the day after tomorrow, Ashad 24. The division has requested residents in riverine areas and around risk zones to take necessary precautions.
