Nine killed after jeep veers off slippery trail
Doti - As many as nine passengers were killed along with the driver and four others injured when an overcrowded jeep veered off a slippery trail in late night drive here on Friday evening.
The jeep (Se 1 Ja 491) en route to Chawara Chautara from Dipayal plunged 400 metres downhill at around 10 pm at Kataigau Dhar area of Gaguda of Bogtan rural municipality – 6.
Among the deceased one is a woman and the rest men. All of them hail from Simchaur Chapartola area of Bogtan rural municipality – 1. The driver, Bisnhu Negi, is a native of Shikhar rural municipality – 1.
All of the injured passengers are men and are reported to be in critical condition, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Shiva Bahadur Singh. They were rushed to the Soojung Hospital in Dipayal which is five hours drive away from the accident site.
There were a total of 16 people onboard the vehicle at the time of accident. The injured passengers had saved their lives by jumping off the falling vehicle. Police believe that the overload of passengers on a rural trail made slippery by the monsoon rain is the prime reason leading to the accident.
