At least 9 dead in school shooting in central Turkey

Ankara. At least 9 people were killed and 13 others injured on Wednesday when a student opened indiscriminate fire at a secondary school in central Turkey.

According to Kahramanmaras Governor Mukerrem Unluer, four of the injured are currently undergoing surgery. One of the deceased is a teacher.

Governor Mukerrem Unluer informed reporters that the attacker committed suicide by shooting himself after the incident. This is the second consecutive day of a shooting incident at a school.

On Tuesday, a former student also opened fire at his former school, leaving 16 people injured. The attacker later committed suicide. Previously, such school shootings were considered extremely rare in Turkey.

Following this incident, Turkey's Ministry of Justice has imposed a temporary ban on news broadcasts to ensure the impartiality of the investigation. Additionally, according to Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc, seven officials have been assigned to investigate the incident.
