Chennai Super Kings defeat Kolkata Knight Riders by 32 runs in IPL

Chennai. Kolkata Knight Riders' poor form continues in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season as the team faced its fourth defeat. In the match held at the home ground in Chepauk, Chennai Super Kings stunned Kolkata by 32 runs. 

Chasing a strong target of 192 runs, Kolkata was forced to accept defeat after being restricted to 160 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Invited to bat first after losing the toss, Chennai posted a total of 191 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 20 overs. 

For Chennai, Sanju Samson batted aggressively, scoring 48 runs off 32 balls, while Dewald Brevis contributed 41 runs. Young batter Ayush Mhatre played an explosive innings of 38 runs off just 17 balls, putting Chennai in a strong position. In bowling, Kolkata's Kartik Tyagi took 2 wickets, but other bowlers could not make much of an impact.

Kolkata's start in the chase was very poor. Trapped by the spin of Chennai's bowler Noor Ahmad, Kolkata's batters struggled to stay at the crease. 

Noor stunned Kolkata by sending key batters like captain Ajinkya Rahane, Cameron Green, and Rinku Singh to the pavilion. In a crisis situation after losing 6 wickets for 90 runs, Rovman Powell and Ramandeep Singh attempted to lift the team with a half-century partnership, but it was not enough for victory.

With this win, Chennai Super Kings registered their second victory of the season, climbing to the eighth position in the table with 4 points. On the other hand, plagued by consecutive defeats, Kolkata Knight Riders have dropped to the bottom of the table.
