Ruby Kumari Thakur elected as Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives

Kathmandu. Ruby Kumari Thakur, the candidate from the Labor Culture Party, has been elected as the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives. She was elected during the voting held on Friday. 

In the voting held in the House of Representatives today, 229 votes were cast in favor of Thakur. There were 5 votes against her, while 22 members remained neutral. A total of 256 lawmakers participated in the voting. 

Thakur was elected after the proposal for her rival, RPP's Saraswati Lama, was rejected by a majority. Thakur, from the Labor Culture Party, is a Gen Z lawmaker. She was elected under the proportional representation system. 

Thakur received votes from lawmakers of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, Nepali Congress, Nepal Communist Party, and the Labor Culture Party, while Lama only received votes from Rastriya Prajatantra Party lawmakers. 

Lawmakers from the CPN (UML) remained neutral.
