Gujarat Titans Captain Shubman Gill Fined for Slow Over-Rate in IPL 2026

Kathmandu. Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill has been penalized during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. He has been fined 1.2 million Indian Rupees for maintaining a slow over-rate during the match against Delhi Capitals.

According to the media advisory issued by the IPL, this penalty was imposed because Gujarat exceeded the stipulated time limit while bowling. As this was Gujarat Titans' first offense of the season, the minimum fine was applied in accordance with Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct.

In that match, Gujarat secured a dramatic victory by defeating Delhi by just 1 run. Batting first, Gujarat posted a massive total of 210 runs, in response to which Delhi could only manage 209 runs.

According to IPL rules, every team must complete their 20-over innings within approximately 90 minutes. Excluding strategic time-outs and other breaks, the match referee continuously monitors the over rate. If a team fails to complete their overs within this time limit, it is considered a 'slow over-rate,' and the captain is held primarily responsible and fined.

The penalties become stricter with repeated offenses. For the first offense, the captain is fined 1.2 million; if the offense is repeated a second time, the fine increases to 2.4 million, and other team members are also fined a percentage of their match fees. If the same mistake is repeated a third time, there is a provision for a heavy fine as well as a one-match ban for the captain.

This is Gujarat's first win of the season. Gujarat is now scheduled to play their next match against Lucknow Super Giants in Lucknow on Sunday. Meanwhile, the defeated Delhi Capitals will face Chennai Super Kings in Chennai on Saturday.
