Lumbini Chief Minister Acharya Urges Farmers to Boost Agricultural Productivity

Dang. Lumbini Province Chief Minister Chet Narayan Acharya has urged farmers to prioritize production and avoid leaving land fallow. While inaugurating the cleaning program for the Praganna Canal, a vital irrigation project in the Deukhuri region of Dang, Chief Minister Acharya stated that the provincial government is identifying the genuine challenges faced by farmers and formulating plans to address them.

Describing the Deukhuri region as a granary, he expressed concern over the recent trend of land remaining uncultivated and declining production. Emphasizing the need to increase output to reduce reliance on imported vegetables, he encouraged farmers to engage in vegetable cultivation. He noted that despite the availability of irrigation facilities, the expected results have not been achieved, and urged everyone to focus on production-oriented activities.

The event was organized jointly by the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation and the Praganna Canal Irrigation System Main Coordination Committee, Deukhuri, under the slogan 'Basis of Agriculture: Improvement in Irrigation'.

During the program, Minister of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Sita Sharma Chaudhary stated that the government is moving forward with determination to expand irrigation facilities. She highlighted the crucial role of irrigation in increasing production and productivity.

Tanknath Chaudhary, Chairman of the Praganna Canal Irrigation System Main Coordination Committee, pointed out that uncontrolled extraction from the Rapti River is causing problems for the irrigation system. Currently, the irrigation project provides water to 5,800 hectares of land.

Ministry Secretary Churna Bahadur Oli informed the gathering that the irrigated area is gradually expanding.
