MP Ram Kumari Jhakri Demands Investigation into Singha Durbar Arson Incident

Kathmandu. CPN-UML National Assembly member Ram Kumari Jhakri has stated that there should be no delay in uncovering the truth behind the incidents, including the burning of Singha Durbar on Bhadra 24.

Speaking at the National Assembly meeting on Monday, the former minister questioned the government on when an impartial investigation into the incident would take place. Expressing her distress over the destruction of Singha Durbar and the manipulation of youth, she demanded that the facts be made public. MP Jhakri also warned the government against sweeping issues under the rug and pretending that everything is fine.

She said, 'Was the uprising on Bhadra 23 and 24 peaceful? Or was it violent, and who takes responsibility for it? Some reports have emerged regarding the incident on the 23rd. Who is responsible for the narrative that burning state property like Singha Durbar on the 24th has no consequences, and who monitored and sent people to do this? Who will seek the answer to this? Who created the narrative that it is acceptable to burn Singha Durbar today? And who used the youth in this manner? If not today, this honorable National Assembly will seek these answers tomorrow or some other day.'

She further added, 'It is unacceptable to sweep dust under the carpet and claim everything is fine. Based on the premise that the Bhadra 23 incident was peaceful, Singha Durbar was turned into ruins. What happened in history? When will an impartial investigation into this take place?'

MP Jhakri also emphasized that the country cannot move forward by accepting the false narrative that anything can be done against the state.
