Public transport halted in Surkhet following police crackdown on workers

Surkhet. Public transportation services in Surkhet have been halted since early Friday morning. Transport entrepreneurs decided to stop vehicles departing from the bus park in Birendranagar, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded.

Transport entrepreneurs have accused the police of cracking down on public transport workers. They also claim that private vehicles with red license plates are being allowed to operate freely.

They stated that it is unjust to exert pressure only on public transport. However, Deputy Superintendent of Police Mohan Jung Budhthapa of the District Police Office, Surkhet, stated that they took action against those who were unnecessarily harassing and pulling passengers.

'We took action because they were unnecessarily harassing and pulling ordinary passengers,' he said, 'We will hold discussions regarding the transport strike.'
