Mechi Highway Blocked Again by Landslide in Jhapa After Brief Resumption

Jhapa. The Mechi Highway, which had resumed one-way traffic since last night after clearing a landslide, has been obstructed again this morning due to another landslide.

Traffic service has been affected after another landslide occurred on the road early this morning, shortly after the previous one was cleared for one-way operation. According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Laxmi Bhandari of the District Police Office, Ilam, the road is completely blocked due to the landslide that occurred this morning. He stated that efforts are underway to clear the obstructed road.

The highway, which was previously blocked by a dry landslide in the evening, had resumed one-way operation from 10:50 PM. However, the situation has become complicated after another landslide occurred this morning.

Police reported that a dry landslide with stones fell from above at the road maintenance site in Baghkhor, Rong Rural Municipality-4, Ilam. During the same incident, a truck carrying gravel with registration number Province 1-01-001 Kha 4334, traveling from Ilam towards Jhapa, was buried.
