More colleges to run B.Sc forestry programmes despite criticism

Chitwan –The University of Agriculture and Forestry has expanded its constituent campuses despite criticism for its efforts to grant affiliation to private educational institutions. 


Its four affiliated colleges are into operation at present. They are based in Pakhribas of Dhankuta, Tikapur of Kailali and Kapilakot of Sindhuli with 50 students in each of them pursuing Bachelor's of Science in Agriculture. 
Recently, the University Grants Commission decided to allow establishing seven constituent colleges

responding to the proposal by the University Senate for running 10 constituent colleges. The campuses that have received approval for establishment will be based in Bardibas of Mahottari, Udayapur, Khajura of Banke and Madichaur of Rolpa. 


The entire processes have been completed to establish a college in Bardibas while the Sushma Memorial Trust based in Katari, Udayapur, has proposed to the Council of Ministries to transfer its 27 bigha of land in the name of the University to run a the B.Sc programme in Forestry, said Vice Chancellor of the University Prof Dr Ishwori Prasad (IP) Dhakal. 


As per the provision, a university has to register at least 100 ropani of land in hilly area and eight bigha in Tarai in its name to run a constituent campus. 


Likewise, processes are underway to run constituent colleges at Chyangli of Gorkha, Chapakot of Syangja and Dullu of Dailekh, Khajura and Madichaur, said Dhakal. Of them, a campus based in Madichaur will operate from coming academic season, he added.
