Trishuli, Nuwakot – A new mother at Betini Hile of Dupcheshwor Rural Municipality died last night when she and her family, instead of rushing her to the nearest healthcare centre, depended on the local shaman for her treatment.
Maili Tamang had given birth to a baby on Wednesday. She was unable to deliver the placenta following the birth of her baby resulting in an excessive bleeding.
Communist Party of Nepal ward committee Chairperson Gyan Bahadur Tamang, however, shared that the new mother breathed her last while she was being rushed to the hospital.
The family of the new mother had consulted her with the local shaman after she could not deliver the placenta.
Since the shaman also failed to help Maili to deliver the placenta, she died on the way to the local healthcare centre for treatment, according to the Betini Health Post's Mukta Lal Shrestha.
Shrestha opined that Maili could have been saved if she had received medical attention rather than depending on the shaman for treatment.
The new born is doing well, according to Maili's neighbour Gyan Bahadur Tamang.
