CPN-UML Secretariat Meets Following Chairman Oli's Arrest; Party Plans Nationwide Protests

Kathmandu. The CPN-UML Secretariat meeting is underway to discuss the arrest of Chairman KP Sharma Oli. Deputy Secretary General Yogesh Bhattarai informed that the meeting, taking place at the Central Office in Chyasal, is deliberating on the party's strategy following Chairman Oli's detention.

The UML, which reacted to the arrest as being based on political vendetta and prejudice, is preparing to hold demonstrations across the country in protest. UML cadres began protests early Saturday morning.

Meanwhile, UML leader Lalbabu Pandit stated that the government initiated political vendetta by arresting Chairman Oli and Congress leader Ramesh Lekhak within 24 hours of assuming office.

‘Retaliation will be met with resistance. We stand for good governance and will pursue legal remedies,’ said leader Pandit. ‘The Chairman of CPN-UML, a former Prime Minister, and a former Home Minister were arrested simultaneously less than 24 hours after the government was formed. CPN-UML will protest this action.’

He further stated that politics of vendetta leads to conflict, not good governance, and that those who started politics with looting and arson are now moving towards creating anarchy. ‘Therefore, the Nepali people and political parties have no alternative but to resist. It invites misfortune and unrest. Political parties will offer political resistance,’ Pandit added.
