Driver said to be missing in Kaligandaki comes in contact after a week

Myagdi – A driver who went missing after the jeep he was driving plunged into the Kaligandaki river has come into contact after a week since the accident.

The jeep driver, 31-year-old Indra Bahadur Khadka alias Rabi of Beni Municipality-9 had gone missing after his jeep (Lu 2 Cha 2454) veered off the road and fell 30 metres down into the Kaligandaki river at Tiplyang, Raghuganga rural municipality of Myagdi district on June 28. Twenty-year-old Sabita Nepali of Gharamdi who was on board the jeep had also gone missing in the incident.

The jeep was going towards Beni from Gharamdi of Annapurna rural municipality at the time of the accident.
It was presumed that both Khadka and Nepali had drowned in the Kaligandaki river after the accident given the high water current and level in the river following incessant rain. Police and family members of both Khadka and Nepali had searched for them in the Kaligandaki river immediately after the accident.

But Khadka has contacted police on Wednesday, six days after he went missing. He has been taken in custody by police for interrogation.

Khadka said that he was thrust out of the jeep into the river following the accident and swam to safety. Khadka's hiding and contacting police only after six days after the accident have raised suspicion regarding the motive and the circumstances of the accident.
