Founding Chairman of NRNA Believes Nepal Can Be the World's Most Prosperous and Peaceful Nation

Kathmandu. Dr. Upendra Mahato, the founding chairman of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), stated that Nepal can be transformed into the world's most prosperous and peaceful country. Addressing the 12th General Convention and Unity General Assembly of the NRNA, Dr. Mahato asserted that Non-Resident Nepalis possess the intellectual, economic, physical, and mental capacity to make the nation prosperous.

“Nepal is a land of penance, a land of gods, and a beautiful land. Nepal is the country that can be made the world's most prosperous, most civilized, peaceful, and beautiful country,” he said. “If we resolve to do so, Nepal can become very prosperous and peaceful in a short time.”

He recalled that the NRNA campaign was initiated out of the realization that no matter how great personal success one achieves, it holds no meaning unless the country prospers. However, he expressed sorrow that even after 23 years, all Non-Resident Nepalis could not stand united.

“After 23 years, while talking about unity again, my eyes are welling up with tears seeing that friends who are building the entire world with their sweat and blood, but are eager to build their own country, could not be present here seeing the empty hall,” he said.

Dr. Mahato presented data showing that Nepalis abroad send remittances equivalent to Nepal's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and suggested that this money should be invested in nation-building. His suggestion was to move forward with a goal of building an economy worth $100 billion within 10 to 20 years.

He emphasized that Non-Resident Nepalis should demonstrate their capabilities through their work in their respective fields rather than just advising and suggesting to the government. “We are always telling the government, 'If this had been done, this would have happened.' But at a time when the country is in difficulty, and the rules and laws are complicated, we must come forward, fight, and move ahead in the campaign to build Nepal,” Dr. Mahato stated.

He called upon all Non-Resident Nepalis to attend the upcoming General Convention in person to send a message of unity and to join hands in the campaign for nation-building.
