Bhojpur Farmers Busy Transplanting Akabare Chili Amid Expansion of Commercial Cultivation

Bhojpur. Farmers in Bhojpur are currently busy transplanting Akabare chili. Since chili planted at this time yields relatively quickly, farmers are engaged in expanding cultivation.

Farmers, especially in the Bokhim area of Bhojpur Municipality-5, have become active in expanding commercial Akabare chili farming. Farmers have started cultivating chili using the mulching technique in their fields. Because this technique promotes better plant growth, reduces weed growth, and makes weeding easier, farmers are increasingly adopting it.

According to Kamala Thapa, a farmer from Bhojpur Municipality-5, farmers in the Bokhim area are currently busy preparing the land, laying mulching plastic, and transplanting seedlings for chili cultivation. Farmers have been cultivating it commercially for the past few years because Akabare chili can generate good income.

With the expansion of road access here, it has become easier to transport the produced chili to the market. Farmers state that this is the reason why the number of farmers commercially cultivating chili is increasing every year.

Akabare chili is primarily cultivated in Pauwadungma Rural Municipality in Bhojpur. In addition, farmers in Bhojpur Municipality, Arun Rural Municipality, and Shadananda Municipality are also engaged in commercial chili farming.

Ghanshyam Baral, Information Officer at the Agriculture Knowledge Center Bhojpur, informed that chili cultivation has also started expanding in limited quantities in Temkemaiyung Rural Municipality and Ramprasadrai Rural Municipality.

According to the Agriculture Knowledge Center Bhojpur, chili cultivation was carried out on approximately 609 hectares of land in the district during the last fiscal year. The office stated that both the number of farmers commercially cultivating chili and the area under cultivation are on the rise in the district following the good income generated from Akabare chili recently.
