Independent Candidate Deepak Joshi Secures Only 113 Votes in Tanahun-1 Despite Extensive Campaign Structure

Pokhara. With less than 15 days remaining until the election date, Deepak Raj Joshi organized a rally for his supporters in Tanahun. After his father's long tenure in Congress politics ended, the Joshi family holds a distinct influence in Tanahun.

In the 2079 election, Govinda Raj Joshi secured around 7,000 votes. Based on that strength, every election revolved around the Joshi family. This time, the Joshi family decided not to support others but to contest themselves.

Deepak Joshi, who lost the Byas mayoralty despite an alliance with UML, became an independent candidate for the House of Representatives from Tanahun-1. To win the election, he organized a rally in the first week of Falgun and formed two groups: a main committee and a booth representative mobilization team.

The main committee had 501 members, while the booth mobilization committee had 612 members. In this area, which has 42 wards, many estimated that Joshi would secure over 6,000 votes. The election concluded, and counting was completed.

However, Joshi received only 113 votes. The 388 people who campaigned for him did not vote for him. Furthermore, 499 of those mobilized as booth representatives also did not vote for him. Joshi submitted an expense report of 549,500 rupees for this election.
