Deposit Forfeited for 144 Candidates in Sudurpashchim Province Elections

Dhangadhi. Among 206 candidates in Sudurpashchim, the deposits of 144 have been forfeited. Across all nine districts of the province, 206 candidates in 16 House of Representatives constituencies failed to secure even 10 percent of the valid votes. According to the Provincial Election Office, in Kailali's five constituencies, out of 75 candidates, 58 had their deposits forfeited. Similarly, in Kanchanpur's three constituencies, out of 55 in the electoral field, 42 had their deposits forfeited.

In Dadeldhura, 9 out of 13 candidates could not save their deposits. In Baitadi too, 6 out of 11 candidates faced the same situation. In Darchula, out of 11 candidates, 7 had their deposits forfeited. In Doti, out of 9 candidates, 5 had their deposits forfeited. Likewise, in Bajhang, 3 out of 7 candidates had their deposits forfeited.

In Achham-1, there were 8 candidates, 5 of whom had their deposits forfeited. In Bajura too, 4 out of 8 candidates had their deposits forfeited.

According to Section 71 (1) of the House of Representatives Election Act, 2074, candidates who receive less than 10 percent of the total valid votes under the First-Past-the-Post system are subject to the forfeiture of their security deposit.
