Major Shift in Gandaki Province: CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Center) Fail to Secure Any Federal Seats

Pokhara. In the House of Representatives election held last Thursday, the communist parties CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Center) failed to secure victory in even a single constituency in Gandaki Province. Representation for both parties from Gandaki has dropped to zero. In the 2079 elections, UML had won five seats and CPN (Maoist Center) had won two seats from Gandaki.

The Nepali Congress, which won 10 seats in the previous election, was limited to just two seats in Gandaki this time. The deposit of the National Janamorcha candidate, who won in Baglung-1 in the 2079 elections, was forfeited this time.

The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) succeeded in winning 15 out of the total 18 constituencies in the province. RSP candidates won in all districts except Myagdi, Mustang, and Manang. Independent candidate Mahabir Pun won in Myagdi.

Yogesh Gauchan Thakali of the Nepali Congress secured a parliamentary journey from Mustang, and Tek Bahadur Gurung of the Nepali Congress also succeeded in doing so from Manang. RSP secured victories in most districts, including Kaski, the provincial capital. From RSP, Khadakraj Poudel won in Kaski-1, Uttam Prasad Poudel in Kaski-2, and Bina Gurung in Kaski-3. RSP candidates also won in both constituencies of Baglung.

Sushil Khadka won in Baglung-1 and Som Sharma in Baglung-2. RSP candidates also won in both constituencies of Syangja. Dhananjay Regmi reached parliament from Syangja-1 and Jhabilal Dumre from Syangja-2. RSP candidates also won in both constituencies of Tanahun. Swarnim Wagle won in Tanahun-1 and Shriram Neupane in Tanahun-2.

Similarly, Rajan Gautam of RSP won in Nawalparasi-1 and Manish Khanal in Nawalparasi-2. RSP candidate Dharmaraj KC won in Lamjung. Sagar Bhusal of RSP secured a parliamentary journey from Parbat. RSP also won in both constituencies of Gorkha. Sudan Gurung won in Gorkha-1 and Kabindra Burlakoti in Gorkha-2.
