Bird Flu Confirmed in Chitwan; 38,200 Chickens Destroyed

Chitwan. Bird flu (Avian Influenza H5N1) infection has been confirmed in Chitwan, leading to the destruction of 38,200 layer chickens.

The infection was confirmed at a commercial chicken farm in Khairhani Municipality-1, and the chickens, along with their feed, were destroyed as a control measure. According to the Chitwan Animal Services Office, the infection was confirmed in chickens on Jestha 23, and the destruction of chickens began on Jestha 24, informed Chief Dr. Prabhat Neupane.

According to him, after destroying chickens for three consecutive days, the farm was thoroughly cleaned and sealed on Tuesday. Similarly, 1,405 crates of eggs and 12 tons of feed were also destroyed from the farm, informed Chief Dr. Prabhat Neupane.

"We sent samples to the Veterinary Disease Investigation Laboratory, Tripureshwor. After Avian Influenza H5N1 was detected there, we spent three days destroying chickens, eggs, and feed," he said. According to Chief Dr. Neupane, sample collection is also underway in other locations.

Previously, on Chaitra 12, infection was confirmed at a commercial chicken farm in Bharatpur Metropolitan City-4, resulting in the destruction of 17,870 layer chickens and 935 local chickens from a nearby farm. There is an investment of more than 70 billion in the poultry sector in Nepal.
