Rastriya Swatantra Party Secures 16 Seats in Koshi Province Elections, Sweeping Key Districts

Biratnagar. The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has registered victories in 16 out of the 28 constituencies in Koshi Province. Counting is still underway in Sunsari-4, where the RSP is currently leading.

The RSP achieved impressive victories in a total of 13 constituencies: 5 in Jhapa, 6 in Morang, and 2 in Udayapur. In Jhapa-5, the constituency of CPN-UML Chairman and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, RSP senior leader Balen Shah defeated him.

Furthermore, in Jhapa-3, RSP's Prakash Pathak defeated the Chairman of RPP, Rajendra Lingden. In Jhapa-2, former Deputy Speaker Indira Rana Magar defeated former Speaker Devraj Ghimire by a large margin, securing 60,110 votes.
Nisha Dangi of RSP won in Jhapa-1, and Shambhu Prasad Dhakal won in Jhapa-4, leading to a clean sweep for the RSP in Jhapa.

Similarly, the RSP clean-swept all six constituencies in Morang, displacing the organizational strength of major parties. In Morang-6, Congress leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala was defeated by RSP's Rubina Acharya. In Morang-3, RSP's Ganesh Karki stunned the well-known medical entrepreneur and Congress leader Dr. Sunil Sharma by securing 36,924 votes.

In Morang-4, Congress General Secretary Gururaj Ghimire was defeated by RSP's Santosh Rajbanshi by a significant margin. Yagyamani Neupane won in Morang-1, Krishna Karki in Morang-2, and Asha Jha in Morang-5, marking the start of a new political chapter in Morang.

The RSP secured impressive victories in both constituencies of Udayapur. In Constituency No. 1, Parash Mani Gelal secured 30,590 votes, defeating Rajesh Kumar Rai of the Shram Sanskriti Party. In Constituency No. 2, Surya Bahadur Tamang defeated CPN-UML's Ambar Bahadur Rayamajhi, ringing the bell for the party. Additionally, in Okhaldhunga, RSP's Bishwa Mani Pokhrel defeated Congress's Kumar Luitel.

In Koshi, the final vote counts for Ilam-1, Sankhuwasabha, and Sunsari-4 are yet to be announced, with counting ongoing there. Currently, CPN-UML candidates are leading in Ilam-1 and Sankhuwasabha, while the RSP candidate is ahead in Sunsari-4.

According to the results declared for 25 constituencies, Santosh Subba from Tehrathum, Prakash Singh Karki from Solukhumbu, and Narendra Kumar Kerung from Panchthar won for the Congress party. Aaren Rai from Khotang, Dhurbaraj Rai from Bhojpur, and Harkaraj Rai from Sunsari-1 won for the Shram Sanskriti Party. CPN-UML secured victories through Khitij Thebe from Taplejung, Suhang Nemwang from Ilam-2, and Rajendra Rai from Dhankuta. CPN (Maoist Centre), which previously won three seats, and RPP, which won one seat, have been limited to zero this time.

This election saw national figures like KP Oli, Bishwa Prakash Sharma, Rajendra Lingden, and Shekhar Koirala suffer defeats in their home districts. While securing 16 seats, the RSP achieved clean sweeps in Jhapa, Morang, Udayapur, and Okhaldhunga.
