Rabi Lamichhane's Rastriya Swatantra Party Candidate Wins Morang-6 Seat by Huge Margin, Defeating Congress Leader Shekhar Koirala

Biratnagar. Rubina Acharya of the Rastriya Swatantra Party has won the election from Morang Constituency Number 6 by a significant margin. Her competitor was Congress leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala. The situation was not easy for the Congress supporters, who were claiming victory, until the final results came in, because Koirala's defeat against Acharya was not minor. 

Acharya secured 55,513 votes, while Koirala received only 12,850 votes. The vote difference between Acharya and Koirala stands at 42,663. Other candidates in this constituency could not cross the 10,000-vote mark. Dr. Shekhar Koirala had won from this constituency in the 2079 elections. 

Who is Rubina?

Acharya, born on Magh 10, 2052 BS, at the Oil Corporation in Biratnagar-4, completed her higher education in Kathmandu. She obtained her BBA from a college affiliated with Tribhuvan University and her MBA from Kathmandu University School of Management. She received her primary education from Eden National and Maryland College in Biratnagar. 

Rubina Acharya's political journey began with the 2074 federal elections. She played a significant role in formulating election strategies and mobilizing volunteers in Kathmandu Constituency No. 2 through the then Bibeksheel Sajha Party. 

Acharya, who held a leadership role in the Bagmati Province Committee of the Bibeksheel Sajha Youth Organization, was later elected unopposed as a central member of the same party. Following the merger between the Rastriya Swatantra Party and Bibeksheel Sajha, she arrived in Morang to contest the election as a youth leader of the RSP. 

Acharya, who has been active in social work for the past decade, has played a leading role in Dr. Govinda KC's medical education reform campaign, the 'Hot Meal Campaign' conducted during the Corona pandemic, and initiatives against violence against women. She states that her main issues are the economic, social, and political empowerment of women, leadership development, and gender equality. 

Acharya, who has consistently advocated for civil rights and inclusivity, stated that she is committed to sustainable social development and change in the coming days.
