Historic Vivah Mandap and Museum in Janakpurdham Closed

Dhanusha. The historic Vivah Mandap and the museum located in the premises of Janaki Temple in Janakpurdham have been closed since Tuesday.

The administration has informed that the Vivah Mandap and museum have been closed in protest against the directive of the Home Minister of Madhesh Province, Fakira Mahato, to arrange free entry to both sites without consulting the Dhanusha District Administration.

Domestic and foreign tourists and devotees who came for sightseeing have been affected due to the closure of Vivah Mandap and the museum.

The Madhesh Province government has not made any official statement on the matter. The museum administration has stated that if a solution is not reached through dialogue and agreement, further protest programs will be announced.

Mahant Ramtapeswar Das of Janaki Temple said that the museum was closed after Minister Mahato took away all the tickets, as the service facilities for the temple management and employees have been met from the ticket expenses since the completion of the Vivah Mandap construction.

He said, "The decision made without necessary discussion and agreement is unacceptable. If the problem is not resolved, there will be further protests." The historic Vivah Mandap of Janakpurdham and the museum located in the premises of Janaki Temple are known as important heritage sites from a religious, cultural, and tourist perspective.
