Police Officers Assaulted in Two Separate Incidents in Lalitpur

Lalitpur. Police personnel deployed on duty were subjected to violent attacks in two separate locations in Lalitpur. A total of 12 individuals involved in these incidents in Changathali and Jhamsikhel have been taken into custody by the police.

On Sunday night, a police team on patrol in Changathali, Ward No. 7 of Mahalaxmi Municipality, was suddenly attacked. After some local individuals hurled stones at the Quick Response Team (QRT) deployed from the Lubhu Police Post, the police fired one round in the air to bring the situation under control.

The injured police personnel are being treated at Kist Hospital in Imadol. Police have arrested four individuals on suspicion of involvement in the incident. Those arrested include Buddha Tamang (Bikash), 29, from Makwanpur; Ramesh Shahi and Shankar Shahi, both 20, from Salyan; and Raju Magar, 22, from Rukum. The Lalitpur District Court has granted permission to keep them in custody for eight days for investigation.

Police Attacked with Kicks and Punches While Trying to Intervene in Jhamsikhel

Similarly, on Saturday night, police officers became victims of assault while attempting to stop youths causing a disturbance outside The Grove Restaurant in Sanepa, Ward No. 3 of Lalitpur Metropolitan City, Jhamsikhel. The team from the Sanepa Police Post tried to intervene with a group fighting on the public road while allegedly under the influence of alcohol.

However, upon being asked to stop, the agitated individuals used obscene language and attacked the police with kicks, punches, and sticks. The injured police officer is currently receiving treatment at Alka Hospital in Jawalakhel.

Police have taken 8 individuals involved in the rioting and assault into custody. Legal proceedings have been initiated against them after extending their custody period by seven days.
