India to Host Afghanistan for One-Off Test and Three ODIs in June

Kathmandu. The Indian national cricket team is set to host Afghanistan for a series comprising one Test match and three One Day Internationals (ODIs) in June.

The lone Test match of the series will commence on June 6 in the new Chandigarh. Following this, the three-match ODI series will be held in Dharamshala on June 14, Lucknow on June 17, and Chennai on June 20. This series is scheduled to begin just six days after the conclusion of the Indian Premier League (IPL) final on May 31.

This will be the second Test match between India and Afghanistan. In their previous and only Test encounter in Bengaluru in 2018, India secured a massive victory by an innings and 262 runs. However, this Test will not fall under the current World Test Championship (2025–27) cycle.

Another significant aspect of this series is that it will be the first bilateral ODI series between India and Afghanistan. Previously, these two teams had only faced each other in multi-national tournaments like the Asia Cup and the World Cup in the ODI format. Looking at all formats, the last meeting between the two sides was during the Super Eight stage of the 2024 T20 World Cup.

This will be India's first international fixture following the ongoing T20 World Cup. Afghanistan, on the other hand, will play three T20Is and three ODIs against Sri Lanka in the United Arab Emirates immediately after the World Cup concludes. Following the series against Afghanistan, India will tour England from July 1 to 19, where they will play five T20Is and three ODIs.
