Traffic Management in Kathmandu Valley Becomes Increasingly Challenging Amid Decreased Police Presence

Kathmandu. Traffic management in the federal capital, Kathmandu Valley, has become very challenging and chaotic in recent times. While the volume of vehicles on the roads is continuously increasing, the thinning presence of traffic police is leading to traffic management slipping out of control.

In the past, vehicle movement was somewhat organized due to the dense presence of traffic police at major intersections and busy road sections. However, traffic police are now seen only sporadically in most parts of the valley.

With the reduced presence of regulatory bodies on the roads, the tendency among drivers to disregard traffic rules and drive haphazardly has increased. Consequently, traffic jams lasting for hours occur in various parts of the city, not just during office hours but at other times as well.

As the number of traffic police decreases, pedestrians face significant hardship crossing the road, and drivers have to struggle to proceed in turn. Due to the shortage of manpower deployed for road management, a state of disarray has emerged from the inner roads of Kathmandu to the main highways.
