Stakeholders Urge Strict Adherence to Code of Conduct for Upcoming By-Election

Biratnagar. Stakeholders have emphasized that everyone must compulsorily adhere to the code of conduct to ensure the House of Representatives by-election scheduled for Falgun 21 is conducted cleanly.

During the opening session of the two-day 'Journalist Code of Conduct Trainer Training' organized by the Koshi Province Committee of the Nepal Journalists Association here, with the support of the Koshi Province Ministry of Home Affairs and Law and Press Council Nepal, stakeholders stated that the role of journalists is even more crucial in this endeavor.

Home Affairs and Law Minister Indra Mani Parajuli stated at the program that the election, being held under special circumstances, is important from the perspective of protecting democracy and the constitution, and everyone must be vigilant about the integrity of the election. He stressed that journalism must contribute against tendencies that weaken society and spread misconceptions among the public.

Other speakers at the program expressed the view that it is a citizen's natural right to vote in a fear-free environment, and media and journalists must be conscious and inform the public.

Association Chairman Bharat Khadka stated that the training, which will run for two days, will include discussions on the journalist code of conduct, election code of conduct, and ethical conduct that journalists must follow to play a greater role in the election.
