Former King Gyanendra Urges Resolution of National Issues Before Elections

Kathmandu. Former King Gyanendra Shah has expressed the view that elections should only proceed after resolving the existing national problems in the country. Former King Shah stated this while issuing a video message on the occasion of the 74th National Democracy Day on Wednesday.

While periodic elections are a natural process for selecting representatives in a democracy, he urged understanding the seriousness of the current situation. In the message, he said, 'The general sentiment at this time is that it would be appropriate to proceed towards the upcoming election process only after first resolving the national problems in the country.'

He argued that the right path would be taken by going to the elections only after building national consensus and an inclusive understanding, keeping in mind that no conflict, unrest, or tug-of-war should occur in the country after the elections.
