Nepal Communist Party (Majority) Demands Immediate Release of Secretary General Dharmendra Bastola After Arrest

Kathmandu. The Communist Party of Nepal (Majority) has expressed strong objection to the arrest of its Secretary General Dharmendra Bastola and demanded his immediate release.

The party issued a press statement on Tuesday night demanding the immediate release of Bastola and other leaders arrested along with him.  

The statement mentioned that Secretary General Bastola and Kavre District Secretary Bishnu Timilsina were arrested from Tebahal in Khichapokhari, Kathmandu, in the evening while engaged in organizational work.

The statement read, 'Our party's Secretary General Comrade Dharmendra Bastola 'Kanchan' and Kavre District Secretary Comrade Bishnu Timilsina were arrested by the current government around 5:40 PM today, Falgun 5, 2082 BS, from Tebahal in Khichapokhari, Kathmandu, while they were carrying out organizational duties. The party strongly condemns this arrest, carried out in an extremely cowardly manner in the evening immediately following the successful, peaceful, and widely supported nationwide Nepal Bandh program today.'

The party criticized the arrests made during the election boycott as a mockery of minimum democratic rights and a step contrary to dialogue and consensus.

Furthermore, it appealed to human rights organizations to initiate efforts for their release.
