Sankhuwasabha Municipality Distributes Subsidized Beehives to Boost Beekeeping Income

Sankhuwasabha. Sankhuwasabha Municipality has distributed beehives complete with bees under a subsidy program with the objective of increasing farmers' income and promoting commercial beekeeping.

Beehives complete with bees were distributed to farmers within Khandbari Municipality with the aim of making them self-reliant. With the objective of increasing farmers' income and promoting commercial beekeeping, Sankhuwasabha Municipality distributed beehives complete with bees to farmers at a 50 percent subsidy. Khandbari Municipality Mayor Mahesh Thapaliya stated that the municipality handed over 90 beehives complete with bees to farmer groups and individual farmers during a program. He added that the municipality distributed the beehives complete with bees to develop beekeeping not just as an alternative but as a primary source of income.

Under the bee promotion initiative, the municipality provided beehives complete with bees to farmers at a cost of NPR 10,800 per hive. Farmers only had to bear 50 percent of the cost; the remaining amount was provided by the municipality as a subsidy. Small and medium-sized farmers have directly benefited from this program. The Agriculture Branch stated that NPR 600,000 was allocated by the Municipal Assembly for the beekeeping promotion program in the fiscal year 2082/83, and the remaining funds will be used to provide training to beekeeping farmers.
