Acting Chief Election Commissioner Urges Support for Free and Fair General Elections

Kathmandu. Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari has called upon all levels and sectors of society to cooperate in conducting the upcoming House of Representatives election in a clean, free, fair, and fearless environment, as it is the only viable option for the nation's way forward.

He stated that this election is essential for bringing the rampant indiscipline in the country back on track and for ensuring the flow of good governance. Acting Chief Commissioner Bhandari said, "This election is for bringing the rampant indiscipline within limits and for selecting clean representatives to ensure the flow of good governance; we will demonstrate a fair election."

He urged participation in the election process to elect clean and honest candidates, exercising sovereign rights by casting votes in a manner that avoids invalidation.

Mentioning that the entire media sector played a very good role in making the election successful after the date announcement, Chief Commissioner Bhandari opined that since the current environment was created through the collective effort of everyone, overcoming the hurdle of the announced election date, the only alternative now is the election itself.

Referring to the context where revolution, popular movements, and uprisings have occurred multiple times within the same century, he stated that cooperation from everyone is needed to conduct this election, announced after the uprising, in a clean, free, and fearless environment.

He mentioned that the Election Commission has been provided with all necessary resources by the government for the election, clarifying that the Commission is moving forward with the election process within the periphery of those resources.

He noted that the role played by the media sector and all other bodies in bringing the post-Jana Andolan situation to dialogue and consensus, the created atmosphere of trust, and the suggestion to abandon the spirit of rebellion were worthy of consideration.
