Australia Defeats Ireland by 67 Runs in T20 World Cup Group B Match

Colombo. In a Group B match of the T20 World Cup, Australia defeated Ireland by 67 runs. Chasing the target of 183 set by Australia in the match held in Colombo on Wednesday, Ireland was all out for 115 runs in 16.5 overs. 

Nathan Ellis and Adam Zampa delivered lethal bowling spells to dismiss Ireland cheaply. Ellis took 4 wickets for just 12 runs in 3.5 overs, including 1 maiden. Zampa also claimed 4 wickets for 23 runs in 4 overs. 

For Ireland, George Dockrell contributed 41 runs off 29 balls, hitting 3 fours and 2 sixes. Wicketkeeper Lorcan Tucker scored 24 runs off 27 balls. 

Ross Adair and Mark Adair made 12 runs each, while Gareth Delany scored 11 runs. Other batters failed to reach double figures. Captain Paul Stirling retired hurt after scoring 1 run. By securing a victory in their first match, Australia climbed to the top spot in the group based on net run rate. Meanwhile, Ireland suffered its second consecutive defeat. 

Earlier, Australia had scored 182 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Marcus Stoinis was the top scorer for Australia with 45 runs. 

Josh Inglis and Matt Renshaw contributed 37 runs each. On the bowling side, Mark Adair took 2 wickets for Ireland. Matthew Humphreys, George Dockrell, and Harry Tector each claimed 1 wicket.
