Nine Dead in Deadly Shooting Spree at British Columbia School and Residential Area

Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia. Nine people have died in a shooting incident at a secondary school and a nearby residential area in the province of British Columbia, Canada. This violent event, considered the deadliest in decades, has shocked the normally peaceful city of Tumbler Ridge.

The situation became tense on Tuesday afternoon after a gunman opened fire indiscriminately at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School. According to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), six people died at the scene, and dozens were injured.

Police stated that one more person died while being transported to the hospital, and the suspected attacker was also found dead. Preliminary investigation suggests the attacker died by suicide by shooting himself.

Shortly after the massacre at the school, police found two more people dead in a house believed to be connected to the same incident. This brought the death toll to nine. Two people in critical condition were airlifted to the hospital, while 25 others are being treated at a local medical center.

Police are currently searching more houses following the incident in this mountain town of about 2,400 residents. Police have clarified that there is currently no danger to the general public. The earlier order for residents to shelter in place was lifted in the evening. Given the gravity of the incident, schools in the area have been closed for the week.

Mass shooting incidents like this are considered very rare in Canada due to stricter gun control laws compared to the United States. According to statistics, the rate of firearms per 100 residents is 121 in the US, whereas this rate is only 35 in Canada.

This brutal incident, occurring amidst such a safe environment, has placed Canadian society and its security apparatus under serious scrutiny. Police have now begun a detailed investigation into the motive and cause of the attack.
