Man Arrested Near Nepal-India Border with Illegal Firearms

Rautahat. An individual has been arrested with illegal weapons at Guwabari Ghat, near the Indian market of Bairgania, which borders Nepal. The arrest was made during a joint operation by the SSB team of the 20th Battalion of the Indian Border Security Force and Kundwa Chainpur police.

The SSB stated that during a routine check and an operation based on secret information, two locally made pistols and four live rounds of ammunition were recovered after stopping and searching a suspicious young man riding a Pulsar motorcycle.

The arrested person has been identified as 36-year-old Mohammad Imtiaz from Kundwa Chainpur in the East Champaran district of Bihar state, India. Security sources indicated that he has been suspected of being involved in illegal activities in the border area for a long time.

Following specific intelligence that weapons were being smuggled through Fulwaria Ghat near Bairgania market, the team led by SSB Inspector Alok Kumar took action and arrested him around the Guwabari Office Ghat area on Thursday night.

It is reported that further investigation into the incident is underway. As the election time approaches, Nepali security personnel have started strict monitoring of citizens crossing between India and Nepal.
