Delhi Capitals Clinch Eliminator Spot in WPL After Defeating UP Warriorz by Five Wickets

Vadodara. In the final league match of the Women's Premier League (WPL) held in Vadodara, Delhi Capitals defeated UP Warriorz by 5 wickets to secure a place in the Eliminator. With this victory for Delhi, two-time champions Mumbai Indians have been knocked out of the tournament.

Delhi managed to reach the playoffs by finishing third in the table with 6 points from 8 matches, having won 4 and lost 4. Royal Challengers Bangalore had already qualified for the playoffs in first place, and Gujarat Giants in second place.

Batting first, UP Warriorz posted a modest total of 122 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs. None of the team's batters managed to reach the 30-run mark.

Deepti Sharma contributed 24 runs, Simran Shaikh 22, and Shikha Pandey an unbeaten 23 runs. For Delhi, Marizanne Kapp took 3 wickets, while Chienelle Henry and Shri Charani took 2 wickets each.

Chasing a target of 123 runs, Delhi achieved the victory in 18.4 overs, losing 5 wickets. Although Delhi's start was average, Laura Wolvaardt played a crucial innings of 47 runs and captain Jemimah Rodrigues scored 26 runs. Lizelle Lee was out for 10 and Shafali Verma for 29 runs.

On the bowling front, Deepti Sharma took the maximum 2 wickets for UP but could not prevent the team's defeat. With this loss, UP Warriorz bid farewell to the tournament, finishing at the bottom of the table.
