CPN-UML General Secretary Pokharel Confident of Party Chairman Oli's Easy Victory in Jhapa-5

Kathmandu. CPN-UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel has claimed that party Chairman KP Sharma Oli will easily win the election from Jhapa Constituency-5. Responding to a question from a journalist during an interaction organized by the UML-affiliated Press Chautari in Kathmandu on Friday, he stated that the UML faces no risk there.

Even as Balen Shah of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) is considered Oli's main competitor in Jhapa-5, Pokharel asserted that the UML faces no difficulty in winning the election in Jhapa-5.

“The people of Jhapa-5 are politically aware. The people of that area, who sounded the bugle of the movement against the Panchayat system, have also played a leading role in every democratic movement,” Pokharel said. “The party does not believe that the people of that area will alter the results due to the influence of populism and anarchism.”

He mentioned that only the media supporting Balen's faction is creating a buzz in Jhapa-5. “In terms of voters, we are safe in Jhapa-5. There is no situation of risk there,” said General Secretary Pokharel.

He added that the UML is an organized party and is working to institutionalize this election as well.

“The Election Commission set the schedule before the nomination registration program. But now the election campaign has not been able to start due to the code of conduct,” he said. “When the time starts, the campaign will begin.”

General Secretary Pokharel also informed that the UML is preparing to publicly release its election manifesto in the first week of Falgun.
