Disappearance Figures in Madhesh Province Reach Alarming Levels, Police Report Details Protest Damages

Janakpurdham. The Madhesh Province Police Office has stated that the number of missing persons in Madhesh Province has reached alarming levels.    Kamal Thapa, spokesperson for the Madhesh Province Police Office, said that 2,572 people were out of contact in Madhesh Province in the last six months. Of these, 1,448 people were out of contact in the month of Poush alone. Out of those missing persons, 1,501 have been found during the six-month period, while others remain missing.

Similarly, details of the damages incurred during the 'Jangi Andolan' (protest movement) were also made public. According to spokesperson Thapa, a total of four people died during the Jangi Andolan in Madhesh Province. During the protest, a total of 234 government offices in Madhesh Province were damaged.  

The total estimated damage to government offices was stated to be equivalent to 57 crore 35 lakh 52 thousand 125 rupees. He informed that police vehicles were also damaged across the province during the Jangi Andolan, stating that according to the total assessment, police vehicles sustained damage worth 2 crore 6 lakh 78 thousand 380 rupees.

Spokesperson Thapa informed that 1045 inmates held in various jails in Madhesh Province escaped during the Jangi Andolan. Out of them, a total of 579 have been arrested from various locations, while others are still at large.

Likewise, 68 individuals escaped from juvenile correction homes in Madhesh Province during the Jangi Andolan. He stated that out of these, 20 have been apprehended, while 48 remain at large.
