Indian National Missing After Commercial Container Ship Attacked Near Strait of Hormuz

Tehran. One Indian national has gone missing after a commercial container ship was attacked near the Strait of Hormuz. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs has stated that 10 other Indian nationals were rescued safely in the incident.

According to the ministry, the container ship named GFS Galaxy, flying the flag of Cyprus, was attacked near the coast of Oman. The 10 rescued Indian nationals have been taken to a safe location, and a search for the missing person is ongoing.

Earlier, the United States Army's Central Command (CENTCOM) had accused Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of directly attacking the GFS Galaxy ship as it was crossing the Strait of Hormuz.

According to CENTCOM, after the attack, the ship caught fire, the engine room suffered significant damage, and the ship was rendered unable to continue its journey. CENTCOM also stated that one crew member was missing.

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs has condemned the attack, stating that according to international law, navigation and trade in the Strait of Hormuz must be free, safe, and unimpeded. The ministry also mentioned in a statement that acts targeting commercial ships and civilian infrastructure in this region must end immediately.
