President and Vice President of Nepal Prepare for Foreign Visits Amid Election Planning

Kathmandu. As the government prepares for the House of Representatives election on Falgun 21, President Ramchandra Paudel and Vice President Ram Sahay Yadav are preparing for foreign trips.

According to sources at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, President Paudel is preparing to travel to Japan for a four-day official visit starting Magh 18. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs source stated that Japan has invited President Paudel for the visit on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of Nepal-Japan diplomatic relations.

Nepal and Japan established diplomatic relations on September 1, 1956 (Bikram Sambat 2013 Bhadra 17). Elections are currently being prepared in Japan as well.

Vice President Yadav is preparing to travel to the UAE on the very day President Paudel returns. A source at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the Vice President is going there to participate in the 'World Government Summit' to be held in the UAE. A Foreign Ministry official mentioned that President Paudel's travel schedule was shortened because the Vice President Yadav's trip to the UAE was scheduled earlier.

There is a tradition that the President and Vice President should not be out of the country at the same time. Therefore, it is reported that President Paudel's visit has been shortened.

The Japanese government honored President Paudel in 2020 with 'The Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun' for his contribution to promoting Nepal-Japan relations. At that time, Paudel was a senior leader of the Congress party.
