Election Commission Sets Deadline for Withdrawal of Candidacy Ahead of House of Representatives Polls

Kathmandu. The Election Commission has announced that candidates who have filed for the House of Representatives elections can withdraw their names by 1:00 PM today.

According to the election schedule, candidates can withdraw their candidacy from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM today. Furthermore, the final list of candidates will be published between 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM today. As per the commission, election symbols will be distributed to the candidates from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

Under the first-past-the-post electoral system, the period for filing objections to claims was set for Magh 7. The time allotted for this was from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM that day. On the same day, the list of candidates was published after examining and deciding on the nomination papers and objections from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM on Thursday.

A total of 3,486 candidacies have been registered across 165 constituencies nationwide. Nomination papers were registered simultaneously across the country on Magh 6. Out of the total candidacies, there are 3,089 male, 396 female, and one other candidate.

The election for the House of Representatives is scheduled for Fagun 21. Out of the total 275 members of the House of Representatives, 110 will be elected through the proportional representation system and 165 through the first-past-the-post electoral system.
