HoR polls: Security situation strengthened in Sudurpaschim

Sudurpaschim, Jan 16: The police administration has strengthened the security provision for conducting the upcoming House of Representatives (HoR) polls in a free, fair and fearless manner.

Spokesperson of the Sudurpaschim Police Office Gautam Mishra said that election security planning has been implemented considering the geographical remoteness, road networks and sensitivities of election stations for the HoR polls scheduled for March 5.

Mishra said that the Nepali Army will be deployed in the outer ring of the voting stations and polling centres and the Nepal Police in the inner ring. Likewise, the Armed Police Force will also be deployed for the polls.

The administration has categorized the voting stations and polling centres as normal, sensitive and highly sensitive and the security provisions have been ensured accordingly.

According to Mishra, Bajura and Achham districts are considered more sensitive in terms of security arrangements.

In the province, 300 voting stations are categorized as normal, 395 as sensitive and 481 as the highly sensitive ones in regard to election security.

Spokesperson Mishra stated that Bajura, Bajhang and Darchula districts will have additional security challenges in the polls if snowfall occur there.

Meanwhile, offices of the returning officers were established in all 16 constituencies in nine districts of the province on Friday, Chief of Province Election Office Prem Raj Bhatta said.
