Nepali women health volunteers declared 'public health champion'
Kathmandu, Oct 15: The Nepali female community health volunteers have been awarded the 'public health champion' award by the World Health Organisation. Director General of the World Health Organization, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, and WHO Acting Chief Dr Catharina Boehme handed over the award to the Nepali female health volunteers via Nepali Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Dr Purna Bahadur Nepali.
Information Officer at the Ministry of Health and Population, Dr Bhakta KC, shared that that the award was handed over amidst the 78th meeting of the WHO's South-East Asia Regional Committee being held in the Colombo. The honour comes in recognition of female community health works in Nepal. Their role is further appreciated in increased access to health service and improvement in public health, according to Dr KC.
