Demand for Action and Reforms

The Nepal Human Rights Organization has strongly demanded that the current election government take immediate steps to ensure good governance, protect human rights, and establish the rule of law. The organization states that the previous government failed to provide good governance, promoted corruption, allowed relatives and associates to exploit state resources uncontrollably, and failed to understand the sentiments of the youth, even imposing inappropriate restrictions on social media. This created widespread dissatisfaction, leading to the removal of a two-thirds majority government.

Call to End Impunity and Ensure Justice

The organization has made specific demands to end impunity and protect human rights. It insists on a swift investigation and action against those guilty of misusing public taxes, engaging in corruption, acting against the rule of law, and ordering the use of excessive force that led to the killing of peaceful protesters. Similarly, the organization highlighted that during the protests, some elements with criminal intentions engaged in destructive activities like looting private property, vandalizing public assets including Singha Durbar, and arson. It demands strict action against those involved and against individuals who glorify these destructive acts on social media to create an atmosphere of fear among the public.

Ensuring Peaceful Elections and Addressing Demands

Given that the current government was formed to conduct elections, the organization demands that the government create an environment where voters, candidates, and political parties can participate peacefully and without fraud. Furthermore, mentioning that the core demands of the protests included systemic reforms, the organization states that since these demands cannot be fully met under the current constitution, a crucial demand has been put forward: to hold a constitutional referendum to address these reform demands.

Investigation into Security Failures and Restoration

The organization notes that the extensive damage to public property points to a failure by Nepal's security bodies to act professionally. It demands an investigation and action against officials who hindered professional work. It also emphasizes the need to immediately restore court buildings and physical infrastructure, which have been heavily damaged and are the last hope for justice for the people, by arranging a sufficient budget.

Call for a High-Level Commission on Corruption

Stating that the main goal of the current political change is to completely end corruption in the country, the organization demands the immediate formation of a high-level investigation commission. This commission should investigate the assets of intermediaries who, by holding various state positions or with their help, have amassed enormous wealth by misusing state resources, and bring them to justice.
