Procession for the Gyanjya Martyrs

The funeral procession for the Gyanjya Martyrs has begun in Kathmandu. The bodies of ten people who lost their lives during the Gyanjya Martyrs movement on September 9 have been taken from the Teaching Hospital to Pashupati Aryaghat. Their bodies are being carried in a formal funeral procession.

Procession Route and Final Rites

The funeral procession will travel from the Teaching Hospital through Maharajgunj and Chabahil on its way to Pashupati Aryaghat. Out of the ten martyrs, the bodies of six people will be flown by helicopter to their home districts outside of Kathmandu for the final rites. The remaining four individuals will be cremated at the Pashupati Aryaghat.

National Honor from the Government

The government of Nepal has decided to honor those who died in the movement. Each martyr will be draped with the national flag and their final journey will be conducted with official state honors.
