Ministers Return to Kathmandu, KP Oli Seeking For Tight Security

Former Prime Ministers KP Sharma Oli and Sher Bahadur Deuba are still under army protection, while other former prime ministers and outgoing ministers have returned to Kathmandu. The Kathmandu Valley, which was terrified by the rebellion carried out by the Janjati group on September 9 and 10, has now returned to a normal state.

The Rebellion and Its Aftermath

During the protest against corruption and misconduct led by the Janjati group, the KP Oli government's crackdown resulted in the deaths of 19 people. Following this suppression, angry protesters seized and destroyed administrative buildings of the major state organs: the executive, legislative, and judiciary. They set fire to properties across the country, including political party offices, private residences of leaders, and business buildings.

High-Profile Protection

Due to the high security threat, the Nepali Army provided security to outgoing Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, outgoing ministers, and former Prime Ministers Sher Bahadur Deuba, Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda, Madhav Kumar Nepal, and Jhala Nath Khanal. On the morning of September 10, the army moved Oli from the Prime Minister's residence in Baluwatar to the barracks in Shivpuri. Prachanda and Madhav Nepal were rescued by the army from a meeting at the Maoist parliamentary party office in Singhadurbar and taken to a secure location.

Attacks on Leaders' Homes

Congress President Deuba and outgoing Foreign Minister Dr. Arju Rana were at their residence in Budhanilkantha. Angry protesters set the house on fire and severely beat Deuba and his wife. The army rescued them and took them to the hospital for treatment. Former Prime Minister Khanal was at his home when protesters set it on fire. Security personnel moved him to a safe location, but his wife, Rabilaxmi Chitrakar, was seriously injured in the fire. Although the residence of former Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai was also set on fire during the Janjati movement, he did not stay in an army barracks and instead stayed at a relative's house.

Current Situation

According to a high-level source, apart from Oli and Deuba, the other former prime ministers and ministers returned on Sunday and Monday.
